We can geek out all we want, but the best way to choose is a phone is not just by the hardware or the OS, but the phone and the carrier. Here's the smartphone to pick on each... for now.
Best AT&T Phone
Apple's iPhone 4S is the slightly-flawed champion. (October, 2011) If you want to take a crack at Windows Phone (and we recommend that you do!) theNokia Lumia 900is the way to go (April 2012). Want an Android? Then theHTC One Xis for you. (June 2012)
Best Sprint Phone
We recommend the iPhone 4S for Sprint, too, but theHTC Evo 4G LTEis a great alternative for Android fans. It absolutely screams. (June 2012)
Best T-Mobile Phone
Still no iPhone in T-Mobile land, so the speedy, sturdyHTC One S is undisputed champ.
Best Verizon Phone
It's theiPhone 4Son Verizon as well, but we're comfortable calling theGalaxy Nexus the best Android phone. But that's only because it's the only Android phone you can get with a clean build of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and that supersedes all of its faults. And theVerizon LTE versionis faaaaast.
